Gastroenterologists are Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.  They specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the digestive system from the mouth to the anus.  This includes the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, and associated organs.  They also treat nutritional disorders such as lactose intolerance, food allergies, feeding disorders, abdominal pain, inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s Disease, and Ulcerative Colitis.

The Gastroenterologist will determine if the patient needs more advanced tests and/or surgical care, and can then refer them to a Colon and Rectal Surgeon, or another Specialist.
