Community Life
The Tampa Bay area is located on Florida's sunny west coast and offers the diversity of a casual, family-friendly lifestyle in a cosmopolitan city.  The third largest city in Florida, Tampa is a bustling port town that boasts multi-ethnic diversity and a revitalized downtown waterfront.  Visitors can take a leisurely stroll along Bayshore Boulevard, dubbed the "world's longest sidewalk;" or wander the quaint streets of Ybor City, once known as the "cigar capital of the world" and now a city-within-a-city offering Latin-flavored shops, ethnic restaurants, art galleries, and nightclubs.

Disney World is just 90 minutes away!
Local attractions and recreational activities include the 300-acre Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, ranked among the top four zoos in the country; the Florida Aquarium; Adventure Island water park; and several world-renowned golf courses.  Our central location is just minutes from the Gulf beaches and easy access to other day-trip destinations such as Walt Disney World in Orlando and the Kennedy Space Center in Titusville.

Tour Channelside and Downtown by Streetcar.
Tampa’s Channelside District includes nightclubs, restaurants, hotels, shopping, movies, and a bustling Cruise Homeport with vessels from Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland America, and Royal Caribbean, offering a variety of 4 to 14-day cruise itineraries.  The annual Gasparilla Pirate Festival is held every January and includes a pirate invasion flotilla, several parades, the Gasparilla Distance Classic, and many other parties and celebrations.

As for sports, the Buccaneers (NFL), Lightning (NHL), and Rays (MLB), call Tampa Bay home.  The area is also Spring Training headquarters for several major and minor baseball teams including the New York Yankees.

Our arts and cultural activities include the David A Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts, the largest performing arts complex south of the Kennedy Center and home to the Patel Conservatory; the Tampa Museum of Art which features the Southeast's largest collection of Greek and Roman art; the Henry B. Plant Museum located in the University of Tampa, formerly the old Tampa Bay Hotel and a national historic landmark; and the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) with over 400,000 square feet of permanent interactive exhibits and a planetarium.

Tampa’s average annual temperature of 72 degrees allows year-round enjoyment of many outdoor activities.  Our waterfront includes two bays, two rivers, and many area lakes.  From Historic Hyde Park to the prestigious Westchase community, Tampa offers lifestyle opportunities to suit all tastes.

Public Schools
Tampa tied for 20th place in Central Connecticut State University’s America’s Most Literate Cities 2009.
